All values were calculated as described in Materials and Methods, with V m mean representing the mean subthreshold membrane potential. Within group comparisons were made using the paired-sample t test for all data sets, except the coefficient of variation. The values in parentheses are the number of neurons examined in each group, with significant (p < 0.005) differences indicated by an asterisk. For experiments involving blockade of calcium or BK channels, values of n are followed by two additional numbers, which indicate the number of neurons treated with cadmium or cobalt and TEA or iberiotoxin (IBTX), respectively.
